Finance & Control Specialist

  • Indefinite
  • Full time
  • Hybrid (Porto, Porto, Portugal)

We are looking for a Finance & Control Specialist who enjoys doing the work: the numbers, the reconciliations, the project margins and the regulatory evidence behind them.

This is a key role for someone who likes being close to the detail and close to the business. You will be the finance and controlling point of reference for our Iberian unit. You will work directly with the finance teams of our German parent and alongside the external partners who support our accounting, tax and payroll in Portugal and Spain, checking and challenging what they deliver rather than supervising it from a distance.

If you enjoy building a number from scratch, bringing order to a process that does not have one yet, and being the person colleagues come to for a straight answer, you will thrive in our small and collaborative Iberian team.

As a member of our team you will:

  • Prepare the monthly and year-end closing work for the Iberian unit, together with our external accounting partners, and reconcile what comes back from them.

  • Build and keep up to date the reporting our German parent needs (budget, forecast and the monthly numbers) and explain the variances behind it.

  • Put together the economics of our customer projects: cost to complete, margin by project and by customer, and how that margin changes when a project moves from implementation into maintenance.

  • Be the day-to-day counterpart of our colleagues in Group Finance in Germany, working in English.

  • Look after our regulatory agenda hands-on — DORA, ISO 27001 and, in Portugal, the cybersecurity regime introduced by Decreto-Lei n.º 125/2025 — with the focus on Portugal and a lighter eye on Spain.

  • Assemble the answers to customer due-diligence and audit requests from the evidence we keep, and keep our policies, registers and training records current.

What we expect from you:

  • A solid foundation in accounting and finance. We do look for a proper base here, a degree in accounting, finance, economics or management, or equivalent professional training, because you will be working on your own judgement most days.

  • Command of the fundamentals in practice: accruals, cost allocation, revenue and cost recognition on long-running projects, and a closing calendar you have worked to yourself.

  • Proven experience doing finance and controlling work, rather than overseeing it. Part of it in IT services, software, consulting or engineering is a plus.

  • Strong spreadsheet skills, and comfort pulling data out of an ERP or a project-time system and turning it into something a manager can read.

  • Working familiarity with at least one of DORA, NIS2 or ISO 27001, and real interest in picking up the others with our support.

  • Clear communication, the habit of documenting what you do, and a team-oriented mindset across functions and countries.

  • Portuguese and fluent English are a must. Spanish is a plus.

  • Based in Porto or surrounding areas is ideal.

What we offer:

Workplace flexibility.

Flexible working hours.

Challenging projects.

Agile and cross-functional teams.

Flat management hierarchy.

Opportunities to grow on a personal and professional level.

At msg, we value curiosity, clarity, and collaboration. You will join a small Iberian team that works closely with colleagues across the group and in close partnership with our customers. If you are excited about making an impact and growing alongside a supportive team, we would love to hear from you.
